Office Space

After sheltering in place for an extended period of time, it has given us time to evaluate our spaces in every way possible. Our homes have become the ultimate multi-tasker and have been used to the fullest over the last few months. For some, that trend will continue for awhile moving forward. A large majority of clients and readers were relocated to work from home. While removing the commute, working inside the home poses several challenges. Tackling a few priorities to help ease the transition and make the space work to the best of it’s ability are important. Take some of the suggestions below into consideration to make the move a little easier
  •  Evaluate Your Space – Rethink areas in your home. It’s not an easy task but this is the time to think outside the box. Try to find a space where you can incorporate a small desk or table for a work surface. An area off to the side or in another room with a door would be ideal to close off for any virtual meetings and focus on reaching those deadlines. A barely used reach-in closet could be turned into an immediate office and you can close the doors at the end of the day. A corner spot in the lower level to give you more privacy and room to spread out can be an option. While it may not provide a window view, hanging decorative art or a mirror can help to lighten up the space.
  • Add Lighting – This will help in staying productive. Having adequate lighting for your work surface is important. Depending on where the office is situated, the room may only offer soft lighting. It is worth the small investment to have a task lamp on the desk that can be used throughout the day if needed. There are plenty of inexpensive and stylistic options to select from.

  •  Organize & Accessorize – The key to any well run office is to have a command area to keep track of notes, meetings, corral files, etc. It helps to stay on task and get more accomplished throughout the course of the day. Given that a lot of these offices are set up in temporary spaces and likely not ideal for a full office setting, organization will play a large part in keeping things neat and tidy. At the end of the day it’s about making the most of the situation and adapting it to your needs. Don’t be afraid to add a few fun accessories to make it yours!
